THE Lost toy soldiers
One night near the close of World War II, a family secretly removed many valuables from their home, including 1,000+ antique miniature toy soldiers. Those heirloom figurines were dumped into a nearby lake to prevent theft by a fast-approaching army. The family fled soon afterwards, and their ancestral home was destroyed during a battle.
Sometime later, a retreating member of Germany’s Hitlerjugend (youth army) from that same town met a survivor from that family in a DP camp (displaced persons), and listened to his story. Decades after emigrating to the US, that former child soldier coincidentally collaborated with Mr Egan on another project and related this report.
Recovery operations will involve boats, portable remote sensing gear, and teams of qualified sport divers.
Good subject for a documentary film, and possibly an episode in the AR series.
