THE SNOWBOUND BOMBER
Late in WWII, a B-24 bomber experienced severe in-flight engine trouble. The pilot was forced to make an emergency landing on what appeared to be a nearby, snow-covered field. After coming to a stop, the plane broke through what was actually a frozen lake and promptly sank. There were no crew casualties, and no bombs were aboard.
This very rare aircraft is in pristine condition and likely restorable to flying condition. However, its recovery presents unique operational complexities and hazards. Commercial divers and ROVs only.
Good subject for a documentary film, plus an episode in the AR series.
