THE WWII BEACH SUPPLY CENTRE
This location served as an important WWII Allied re-supply center. Engineering teams wisely lowered dozens of crated fighter aircraft into long trenches dug into the beach to protect against Japanese strafing and bombing attacks. At war’s end, the pits were simply bulldozed over.
Mr Egan has examined numerous period photos of the open wartime trenches. Comprehensive analyses of those photos with GIS tools will pinpoint the original locations to facilitate modern surveys and excavations.
Good subject for a documentary film, plus an AR series episode.
