THE UNDERSEA CLIFF PLANE

During an historic WWII battle, an SBD ‘Dauntless’ dive bomber was hit by antiaircraft fire (in error, by US gunners). The pilot was forced to ditch his aircraft, then he and his gunner escaped by liferaft. As the plane sank into the abyss, its propellers lodged in a cliff edge.

The aircraft is in surprisingly good condition. A submarine crew made a video of their discovery and sent it to Mr Egan.

Recovery operations will involve ROVs only, due to the project’s depth of ca. 400’.

Good subject for a documentary film, and possibly an episode in the AR series.
