THE DOOMED EXPLORER
A famous explorer was mistakenly assumed to have perished when his ship sank during a raging winter storm. In fact, he and some crewmen survived and reached shore. Weeks later, the injured and starving explorer succumbed, whereupon his remaining crew buried him in a prominent stone grave. It has never been found.
Long-forgotten crew diaries and letters mentioning the burial have been analysed, and the site’s locale has been narrowed. Pinpointing the grave requires advanced technologies and multiple survey teams. This expedition can become a central theme the subject country’s nation-branding strategy and subsequent tourism campaign.
Good subject for a documentary film, and an episode in the AR series.
