The Battle of The Forest Marsh

An ancient battle site has been localized. Multiple cohorts of poorly-led Legionnaires were lured into a brilliant trap by native skirmishers, who had feigned a retreat. A larger and hidden native force made quick work of the pursuing Romans, whose formations had stretched along the edge of a marsh. The ambushing natives’ onslaught was so sudden that many surprised Romans abandoned their weapons and fled into the marsh, vainly hoping to avoid slaughter. Modern geophysical surveys will pinpoint countless shields, helmets, marching packs, swords, javelins, and other war implements preserved underwater and in the ground.

Great subject for a documentary film, plus at least two AR specials.
