The Battle of The Stone Bridge

The location of an ancient battle site has been pinpointed. During the chaotic political unraveling of a once-prominent frontier province, a large Roman force set out to engage those of a tribal warlord in revolt. The two armies battled on one side of a river crossing. The Romans were defeated largely due to their officers’ incompetence and cowardice. Thousands of encircled Legionnaires perished in the adjoining bog (through which many tried to escape) and along the riverbank. Modern geophysical surveys will pinpoint countless shields, helmets, marching packs, swords, javelins, and other war implements preserved underwater and in the ground.

Great subject for a documentary film, plus at least two AR specials.
