THE MOUNTAIN JUNGLE ‘CORSAIR’

A WWII F4U ‘Corsair’ fighter launched from an aircraft carrier, and headed to a nearby island airfield. The plane soon experienced severe engine trouble, and the pilot prudently bailed out. However, once under parachute, he was stunned to hear his fighter’s engine sputter back to life. The pilot then watched as his runaway plane flew on and disappeared into the island’s thick forest.

Decades later, hunters found that ‘Corsair’ (intact and in good condition at a relatively high elevation) and contacted Mr Egan.
