THE RIVER FIGHTER PLANES

Toward the close of WWII in Europe, an Allied aviation group occupied a forward airbase from which the Luftwaffe had hastily departed. Enlisted personnel were reportedly ordered to push a number of abandoned German aircraft off the edge of a low bluff into the river below. Once the war ended, and before the Allied force departed, they disposed of a number of their own fighter aircraft in a similar manner.

This recovery operation will involve commercial divers only, and a barge with crane.
